Zamiin Uud is the last town along the railway before entering China. It is a surprisingly developed town for its small size of just over 10,000 residents. The train station and large square immediately behind it are the center of activity in Zamiin Uud. Waiting on the square are a number of cars, jeeps, and buses ready to carry people across the border, usually for the purpose of purchasing Chinese goods to bring back and sell. The closest Chinese city, Ereen, is just 7 kilometers away on a very well maintained road making cross-border travel very easy.
